I'd like to partner with you and your organization to light the creative spark in older adults, whether you work in an arts organization or in senior services. Take a peak here at my recent collaboration with Ebenezer and Teatro del Pueblo that caught the eye of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

For Organizations
Serving Older Adults

Is your organization doing all it can to support the creative potential of the people you serve?

Consulting and Program Services

With my assistance, dozens of senior-serving organizations are making it possible for older adults to create their own music, dance, writing, visual arts, acting, storytelling, and more, guided by some of the finest instructors available.

The results? Here is a sampling of some I've witnessed:

Doris
Doris, with a wide grin, grasps the tender thank you note she received after sending her niece a collection of the personal stories she completed in a writing class. Doris carries the note with her for days to show everyone she runs into.

David
David can’t wait each week to go to an acting class that includes both middle school students and residents from his building. He goes even when his back hurts and his incontinence bothers him. “These kids give me hope!” he says again and again. “This class is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Joe
Joe is among dozens of residents who gather with a teaching artist for weeks to create a massive mosaic that will be hung by the building’s elevator. Cutting and inserting pieces of glass and tiles, they tell the many “river” stories from their lives. “This isn’t an art class,” Joe says. “It's about love.”

Research has also confirmed such outcomes for older adults from best-practice programs, including:
     • Higher quality of life
     • Health improvements
     • Vibrant enthusiasm among participants and staff
     • A stronger sense of community

Other typical results include:

Free Publicity: Local press is always eager to do stories on the unique successes of older people.

Improved Staff Morale: Interacting with people who are excited about learning and about sharing their artistic creations with pride generates new energy and enthusiasm among staff as they provide services to them.

Family Approval: Participants’ families are grateful to see their loved ones enjoying life and discovering new abilities. Plus, the family will share their pleasure with friends, giving your organization more free publicity.
If you want to experience these same benefits, I'll be glad to assist you with:
• Speaking, consulting, or staff training on creative aging
• Program assessment and planning
• Grant planning, research and writing
• Program coordination support
• Project evaluation

"Pat’s ability to truly listen to and understand our specific needs, coupled with her working knowledge of arts programming for older adults with dementia, allowed her to recommend the perfect artistic experiences for our organization. Each and every collaboration with Pat Samples has been a great success."
